Don’t let the final score fool you. Plymouth played hard for four quarters in the renewed rivalry against the Penn Kingsmen. Unfortunately, the Pilgrims fell short in an exciting 52-42 overtime loss to the Kingsmen.
Plymouth’s gameplan was almost executed to perfection despite the loss, holding Penn’s two top scorers to a combined 14 points by games end. The problem was stopping Penn’s supporting cast.
Freshman Nate Miller could have earned a starting spot after his 15 point performance against Plymouth on Thursday night. He hit timely three’s all night long, including one in overtime that kept the lead for good for Penn.
Penn’s #3-#4 starters (Austin Torres & Aaron Brady) combined for 21 important points to help Penn’s cause.
Plymouth had some nice play once again from Senior John Ruff who finished with 12 points & 4 rebounds, including a third quarter ending shot and then the game tying shot with just two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Mack Mercer got into foul trouble early and eventually fouled out early in overtime that proved to be a concern in the extra frame. Mercer finished with 14 pts and 9 rebounds. Ryan McNeil added 13 pts including 2 three’s on the night in which, as a team, shot a low 20% from outside the arc (3/15).
A couple of days rest for the Christmas break and then back into the NLC on January 6th with a trip to Northside Gym for a battle against Conference favorite (#12-AP) Elkart Memorial Chargers.
