11/11/11 The Plymouth Kiwanis group answered the call to help Plymouth students to become a success. The Kiwanians have made a donation of $500.00 to the Five Star program. The Five Star program teaches five core values: respect, responsibility, courage, sacrifice, and integrity. The program is offered at Lincoln Junior high school in Plymouth each Tuesday from 3-5 PM.. The Five Star program started six years ago in the Elkhart school system and has now branched out to 14 schools in four different districts involving about 2,000 students.
Kiwanis president Angie Stults said, “As an organization we believe in the values of the 5 Star Program. Our mission is to “change the world one child and one community at a time” and this is exactly what the 5 Star program is working to accomplish. They are working with children in our junior high school to help ensure they have the life coaching necessary to become productive, successful and happy individuals who can then give back to their own communities.”
Casey Martin serves as the lead coach at Lincoln and accepted the gift on behalf of the program. Martin says “The gift is greatly appreciated and I am excited for the days to come.” He adds coaches are always needed and asks for anyone interested to give him a call.
