03/16/11 On Monday, March 14th at approximately 3:20 p.m. Officer Jason Dobbins with the Plymouth Police Department investigated a one vehicle accident in the 1300 block of Harrison Street.

Henry M. Ruiz, 26 of Plymouth was traveling east bound in a Pontiac Bonneville when the front right corner of the vehicle slammed into a utility pole and came crashing down on top of the car.  Ruiz was able to exit the vehicle but was transported to the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for a complaint of pain to the back.  Once released from the hospital he was taken into custody by Officer Dobbins and transported to the jail.

It was found that Henry M. Ruiz was operating the vehicle under a controlled substance while endangering a person. He was arrested and lodged at the Marshall County Jail where his bond was set at $1000.00. Ruiz is scheduled to appear in Marshall County Superior Court 2 on April 26th at 8:30am.

Officer Dobbins reminds drivers to never exit a vehicle when there are downed power lines.  If a line is touching your vehicle you could be electrocuted.  Ruiz was very fortunate to have not been seriously injured by leaving his vehicle prior to emergency responders arriving on the scene.  The power lines that were down were still charged but none of them were touching any metal on his vehicle.
