10/25/11 On Saturday, October 15, the Plymouth Community Youth Orchestra hopped on a school bus and took a trip up to the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend.
They attended the South Bend Symphony’s POPS 1 concert – The Original Phantom of the Opera! It was a very exciting and sometimes frightening show.
Lon Chaney’s original black and white film was shone on a big screen while the SBSO provided the movie’s background music. Much of the spooky music was composed and performed on piano and organ by special guest, Rick Friend. What a treat!
The kids got a kick out of watching professional violinist Candace Thomas perform on stage with the SBSO, since she’s also one of their PCYO directors. Afterwards, a few of the young strings players exclaimed they hoped to be on stage playing with the SBSO when they grow up!
