12/02/11 A former math teacher and assistant basketball and baseball coach at NorthWood High School was sentenced on Wednesday for his involvement with a 16-year-old female student. Zachary Scott, 28, was sentenced to 18-months on two counts of child seduction, Class D felonies, because of his position as a teacher.

He left his teaching position following his statements to authorities in February of this year.

Scott had pleaded guilty in June after admitting to having a romantic relationship with the female student. As a part of a plea agreement at that time, a cap of any prison time was set at two years.

Judge George Biddlecome, Elkhart Superior Court 3, imposed an 18-month sentence in each case, but ordered the terms to be served concurrently. Reportedly, Judge Biddlecome recommended the term be served in community corrections. If Scott qualifies, he may be allowed to serve in the county work release program.
