12/14/11 Tuesday evening Boy Scouts from Troop 257 in Plymouth converged on the Service Center of Oliver Ford to pack food boxes for elderly in the area who could use a little assistance.

Oliver Ford started a food drive the first of November with proceeds benefiting the Marshall County Neighborhood Center and Heminger House at Thanksgiving.  Right after Thanksgiving they started collecting food for the elderly.  As a way to solicit donations Oliver Ford has offered a special $15 oil change to everyone who donates at least 6 items.

Jenny Houin from Oliver Ford said the community has been very generous.  She explained that they went to Older Adult Services and the Neighborhood Center to get the names of those who could use a little help at Christmas.

The Boy Scouts were joined by representatives from the Plymouth Elks Lodge in separating food and filling the boxes.  LuAnn Evans said the Elks have been providing food baskets to the elderly for 5 years.    When the opportunity to work with the Boy Scouts came the Elks jumped at the idea and upped the number of food baskets they provide from 8 to 16.

Tuesday night the boxes were filled with canned soups, veggies, and fruits, paper products, macaroni, boxed foods and more.  The food will be delivered to the elderly on December 24th.

Anyone wishing to donate can still do so until Christmas.  A donation of 6 or more items at Oliver Ford of at the home Boys Varsity Basketball games will get you a certificate for a $15 oil change and a free car wash.  There is no limit on the number of certificates but they will expire on March 18, 2012.
