08/01/11 The 9th Annual Pack-A-Backpack drive sponsored by the Indiana State Police, Bremen Post and Plymouth F.O.P. 195 was held on Saturday with a 6 hour collection drive at Wal-Mart. Members of Plymouth F.O.P., Troopers from the ISP, and counselors from the various schools in the county and caring citizens volunteered their time to solicit shoppers heading into Wal-Mart, asking them to buy school supplies for needy children in the various schools in Marshall County.
On Saturday shoppers came through for the Pack-A-Backpack drive by donating 25 shopping carts full of supplies and backpacks along with cash. Hurshel Hunter from D.O.P. 195 said, “It is because of this caring community that we live in that we are able to help those in need.” Although pleased with the results he is still fearful that some children won’t have the school supplies or backpacks that they need.
Those needing assistance with school supplies should contact their school counselor or principal and make their need know to them. The F.O.P. and ISP does not have decision making in handing out the supplies and backpacks.
