04/26/11  Mayor Mark Senter is happy to announce the keynote speaker for this year’s Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.  The speaker for this year’s breakfast will be Charlie Adams.  Charlie Adams is best known in Michiana for his many years as Sports Director at WSBT TV. One of his great joys was coming to Plymouth to cover the Rockies and Pilgrims. He admits he is the one that came up with the nickname “Ray Roth Arena” for the Plymouth High School basketball gym, even though the gym was not named for the former WSBT TV News Reporter. Plymouth has always been one of Charlie’s favorite communities. When the IHSAA honored him in 2007 with the distinguished Media Service Award for his years of coverage of High School sports, they told him the Commissioner would present it to him at the site of his choice. He asked that the award be presented at halftime of the Warsaw at Plymouth basketball game.

Charlie’s passion has changed from covering sports to helping families find the right fit for their athletes in College sports. Charlie is now a Speaker for the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Network of Chicago. He helps connect Michiana athletes to College Scholarships. In many cases, he helps athletes find the right fit at Christian Colleges where they can grow academically, athletically and in their faith.

No matter what his profession, Charlie’s foundation has always been his faith in God and Jesus Christ. A country boy from Oxford, Mississippi, Charlie grew up going to North Oxford Baptist Church. He credits his Youth Directors for making a big impact in his faith. At this year’s event, Charlie will share how his faith has impacted his life.

The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be on Thursday May 5, 2011 at 6:30 am at Christo’s Banquet Center.  The proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the local Boy Scouts and the Mayor’s Youth Council.  Tickets are $10 each or $100 for a table of 10.  Contact Laura Mann at the Mayor’s Office for tickets.  (574) 936-6717.
