04/19/11 Toastmasters Jan Houin and Marcy Eckoff-Wagner led an informational meeting for at Miller’s Senior Living Community on Friday.  The meeting was for seniors in the Marshall County area who are interested in improving their communication skills.  Approximately twenty-five people attended the meeting. 

Houin, Area 13 Governor and Eckoff-Wagner, Wythoughgan Toastmasters Club President took the group through a sample Toastmasters meeting from the opening pledge of allegiance to the ending slogan “Speak well. People are listening.”  They also explained different aspects of a regular meeting including Table Topics which is impromptu speaking, the concept of timing speeches and how to refrain from repeating key phrases or words such as “uh” and “ya’ know” during a speech.  Refreshments were served during the one hour meeting. 

The group discussed continuing meeting for a six-week Speech-craft Program that will give members an opportunity to take an active part in a weekly Toastmaster meeting.  The meetings are open to the public and will be held for the next six Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. in the Recreation center at Millers.  Miller’s Senior living Community is located at 625 W. Oakhill Ave. in Plymouth. Speakers at the April 20th meeting include:  Quote, Audrey Franklin and Katie Kubley; Joke, Helen Overmyer; Pledge, Carol Rogers; The 4-6 minute Ice Breaker Speech, Shirley Apple; Table Topic Leader, Sharon Miller-Cudney; and Evaluator, Cindy Flagg.  The meeting will be led once again by Houin.
