06/27/11 Wythougan Toastmasters which meets each Friday morning at 6:45 a.m. at Christos Family Restaurant presented special awards to several members at their regular meeting on Friday, June 24. Marianne Peters conducted the meeting in the absence of President Marcy Eckoff-Wagner.
Sergeant At Arms, Steve Weaver opened the meeting. Jan Houin gave the invocation and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Marianne Peters introduced new member Vickie Juhasz and returning member Cindy Flagg. Greg Payne and Cindy Flagg each shared a Quote of the Day while Teressa Welborn told a Joke of the Day and Anikka Pizza introduced the Word of the Day, which was “flexible”.
Peters then presented awards to participating members. Houin received the Advanced Communicator Gold and Coordinating Speechcraft awards. Piazza received an award for her acceptance of Area 13 Governorship. Peters received awards of Advanced Communicator Bronze and Competent Leader.
New officers were also installed during the meeting. Officers for the 2011-2012 year are as follows: President, Andrea Cook; Vice-President of Education, Marianne Peters; Vice President of Membership, Sharon Miller-Cudney; Sergeant At Arms, Steve Weaver; Treasurer, Teressa Welborn; Secretary, Nicholas Dell; and Vice President of Public Relations, Jan Houin.
“Blessings of Independence” was the theme for Table Topics led by Payne. Piazza spoke next, wrapping up the meeting with an evaluation and encouraging everyone to be thinking about their speeches for the upcoming Humorous Speech Contests. Peters closed the meeting with a strike of the gavel and proclaiming, “Speak well, people are listening.” Guests are encouraged and always welcome to attend the Friday morning meeting.
