02/14/11 It’s no wonder attendance is a problem in the public schools. We have a generation of parents who were, themselves, latch-key children: raised without guidance. They’ve grown used to schools providing breakfast, lunch, after school activities, transportaion and even summer meals. What parental involvement do schools encourage or expect? Why don’t we just put cots in the gym and give parents weekend visitation. Then they won’t have to be responsible at all for the care & nurturing of their off-spring.
