09/27/11 Marshall County Police Officer Ryan Hafke investigated a single vehicle accident on US 31 Saturday afternoon at 1:13.  The accident involved an over-sized load.

Super-load semi diver, John Young from Camby, Indiana was driver a semi loaded with a tube section for a wind tower north on US 31.  He pulled his load onto the right shoulder just north of 2C Road  to wait until another super load north of him turned east onto US 6 to clear the intersection before he made his turn.

In the process of pulling onto the shoulder of US 31 the rear trailer of his load went into the grass and started sliding into the ditch.  This section pulled the rest of his load causing his tractor to overturn into the ditch and come to rest on the passenger side.

Mr. Young was able to pull himself out through the driver’s window.  He was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for a complaint of arm pain.

The super-load semi trailer was still in the ditch Monday afternoon.
