09/02/11 On Tuesday, August 30th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call at 5:30 a.m. in regards to a domestic battery between a mother and son at 5613 1st Road in Bremen.

The suspect, 34 year old Douglas E. Wood allegedly battered his mother early that morning.  She was able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s for help.   Officers from the Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene and began communicating with Wood who had fled to the attic above the garage.  The suspect was allegedly in possession of a handgun.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. Tuesday officers from the Indiana State Police responded to the scene to assist Marshall County officers and Bremen Police with the incident.  Just before 8 a.m. the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team was activated and was in route to the house when Douglas Wood voluntarily surrendered.  No weapons were located. 

Douglas E. Wood was arrested on 5 warrants through Saint Joseph County. Warrant charges included residential entry a class D felony, possession of cocaine a class D felony, reckless driving a class A misdemeanor, driving while suspended with a prior charge a class A misdemeanor and harassment a class A misdemeanor.  Woods has not been charged at this time with any crime related to the initial call on Tuesday.  The ISP Post in Bremen indicated that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is the lead on this part of the investigation.
