11/28/11 With just about a week remaining until the 4th Annual Shop with a Cop Auction hosted by WTCA and sponsored by Plymouth FOP Lodge 195, auction items are beginning to fill the area set aside to store them. There are currently more than 350 items to be bid on.

Vera Bradley bags, framed posters, TVs, computers, children’s toys, furniture, and quite a collection of gift certificates will be among the things sold in the Friday, December 2nd on-air auction on WTCA-AM 1050. Hurshel Hunter, president of the Plymouth FOP 195, urged would-be participants to call the radio station (936-4096) and get a bid number before the day of the auction. This will help the bidding process go as smoothly as possible.  The auction begins at 9 a.m. on Dec. 2nd and will continue until all items are sold.

“From the smallest item to the largest item, you can get some good deals,” said Hunter.

The auction is the major fundraiser for the Shop with a Cop shopping trip on December 10th. Hunter said that the goal this year is to take 342 children shopping—”that’s one more than last year.”

Applications for children to go on the shopping trip are still being accepted, and can be picked up at WTCA, the Marshall County Boys and Girls Club, Heart & Hands, or any elementary school counselor in the county.

“It’s the people in our community that make this happen,” said Hunter. “We’ve been taking kids shopping for 16 years. There’s just something about Christmas and children.”
