Argos Girls Roll into Regional Competition

02/02/12 The Argos Bowling teams participated in the sectional last weekend.  The girls team finished 3rd and will advance to the Michigan City Regional this Saturday.  The boys team finished 12th and ended their season.

The girls shot 2, 266 after the qualifying rounds and were seeded fourth going into the stepladder competition.  In the first stepladder game, Argos defeated Plymouth 274-261.  In the second stepladder game, Argos lost to Penn 227-308.  South Bend Clay defeated Penn for the team title 341-316.

Bowling for the girls team were Abby Cohagan, Jina Ewing, Jamie Ewing, Brittani Brown, Liz Hack, Sam Quimby, and Chelsea Bradley.

The boys shot 1,746 for the team competition.  Competing for the boys were Zach Smith, Tyler Nelson, Landon West, Noah Duff, and Dylan Williams. Winning the boys’ team title was Penn.

In the singles competition last Sunday, Abby Cohagan was the girls single champion.  She shot a 539 in the qualifying games and was seeded first going into the stepladder games.  In the first stepladder game, Tashenna Bougher of New Prairie defeated Jessica Grammatica of South Bend Clay 202-168.  Bougher then defeated Stephanie Sumption of Clay 203-177.  In the championship game, Cohagan defeated Bougher 182-172 to win the title.  She will compete in the Michigan City Regional on Saturday.

Also advancing to the singles regional are Jina Ewing who shot 495 and finished 9th in sectional and Jamie Ewing who shot 479 and finished 10th in sectional.  Other girls’ scores were Brittani Brown 383 (38th), Liz Hack 311 (60th), Sam Quimby 305 (62nd), and Chelsea Bradley 293 (63rd).

No boys advanced in the singles competition.  Boys’ scores were Ben Krull 528 (17th), Dylan Williams 419 (52nd), Zach Smith 411 (55th), Noah Duff 349 (70th), Landon West 285 (73rd), and Tyler Nelson 209 (75th). Winning the boys’ singles competition was David Arnold from Mishawaka.

Jina Ewing had the girls’ high two-game series for the Michiana West Conference with a 448.  She and Cohagan were named to the  Michiana West All-Conference Second Team.

Regional competition is Saturday at City Lanes in Michigan City. Singles begin at 9 AM CST, and team begins at 1 PM CST.
