Arts Council to Host 2nd Annual Show at Blueberry

August 24, 2012

08/27/12 Unique, locally created artwork will be at your fingertips next weekend at the Arts Council of Marshall County’s second annual art sale at the Blueberry Festival.

“What we are trying to do is promote local artists and have them take part (in the festival),” said Ed Pullen, president of the Arts Council.

The Arts Council began three years ago, and vice president Jerry Nikitas said that he is “extremely pleased” at the progress the group has made over the short amount of time.

Last year was the group’s first art sale at the Blueberry Festival, and Nikitas said about 2,000 people attended. The sale is held at the Jefferson Elementary School gymnasium near the tram stop, and will feature handmade jewelry, landscapes, fantasy art, and more.

“I think people will be surprised at the professional quality (of the artwork),”  said Pullen. “Some of these artists are ‘up-and-coming’ — their names will eventually be well known.”

The Arts Council is still accepted applications for artists interested in showing and selling their work. Artists do not have to reside in Marshall County, but they should have pieces that are classified as “fine art” in other words, no crafts.

“We don’t want anything that is mass-produced,” clarified Pullen, “(Art) must be individually made and one-of-a-kind.”

Interested artists should visit www.createmarshallcounty.org for more information.

There will be art available for any budget, said Nikitas, adding that pieces will be on sale starting at $5.

“There is something affordable for all,” said Nikitas.

The sale will be in session during the hours of the festival, 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 31 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 1, Sunday, September 2, and Monday, September 3. Payment is accepted in the form of credit, check, or cash.
