06/14/12 The 17th annual Ancilla College Golf Tournament teed off on Monday at the Plymouth Country Club, with 40 teams taking part in the festivities to help raise money for the school.

The tournament, which followed a four-person Florida scramble format, raised over $21,000 for the Annual Fund.  Funds received are pledged to support student grants and scholarships.

“The rain our area so badly needed stayed to the north and allowed us to have a great day out on the course,” said Tom Sibal, Associate Director of Institutional Advancement and organizer of the tournament.  “It’s wonderful to see so many people have a great time while supporting Ancilla College. I am very grateful to everyone who made a donation to Ancilla to make this possible.”

Those who attended were treated to a dinner and had the opportunity to bid on various items, including Notre Dame football tickets. A number of raffle items were given away over the course of the day, and everyone took home a door prize thanks to the generous donations provided by dozens of area businesses.  In all, over $16,000 in prizes donated by 93 area businesses and individuals were auctioned off or given away.

“Once again individuals, businesses and many friends of Ancilla College stepped forward to support our annual golf outing,” said Ancilla College President Dr. Ron May.  “Through the generosity of everyone, countless students will benefit through the financial aid the students receive.  Lives will be changed.  Thanks to everyone!”

Contributing sponsors included 1st Source Bank, Bomarko, Farm Fertilizer and Seeds, Fiduciary Management, Inc., Lake City Bank, Dr. Ron May, Oliver Ford, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Starke County Economic Development Foundation, and Town and County Press.  Christo’s Banquet Center provided lunch for all involved.

The team sponsored by Town and Country Press, including the players PJ Martin, Chris Eberly, Bob Noren and Shawn Reed, took home the top team honors with a score of 55. Lon Kipfer scored a hole in one on the 3rd hole, which won him a prize sponsored by Oliver Ford: a trip for two to anywhere in the continental U.S.
