10/03/12 The Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 Sunday afternoon at 1:32 for two children injured in an unusual accident. The caller said a heavy headboard had fallen on two children, ages 3 and 5, in the 12000 block 4A Road. The caller advised that the 3 year old was having difficulty breathing. Marshall County Deputies, LaPaz Fire and EMS, Plymouth Paramedics and Memorial Medflight responded to the scene.
Both children were transported to St Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. After being stabilized they were then transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne where 3 year old Malachi Palmer died from injuries sustained in the accident.
An investigation at the scene by Marshall County Deputies revealed that the children were playing and accidentally knocked over a headboard that was leaning against a wall while a parent was cleaning in the residence.
