02/09/12 Ancilla College student-athletes work hard at their sport and in the classroom, but they also take time out to give back to the local community as well.
Student-athletes from the Ancilla softball and volleyball programs were on hand as volunteers during the St. Michael’s School “A Night in Italy” fundraiser late last month. The student-athletes helped with set-up, serving during the event and clean-up.
Event chairperson Lindy Rader said, “Without these kids’ help, we could have never pulled it off. They were amazing,” Rader added. “It’s great to have a catholic college in our backyard with students that are willing to help out for events like ours.” Rader said the volleyball team helped the night before with set-up and had things ready in record time. The softball team helped with food and drink service, as well as cleaning off tables throughout the evening. They also had some players who helped with the kids at the craft table. After the evening was over the softball team helped with take down as well.
Ancilla Softball coach Scott Reese added, “The opportunity to help out in our community and help meet the needs of St. Michael’s was a great experience for our team. We had a wonderful time and look forward to helping out again next year.”
“A Night in Italy” raised $17,000 this year for St. Michael’s School. That’s an increase from the 2011 total of just over $10,000.
Ancilla College is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Donaldson, Indiana sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
