CENTREVILLE, MICHIGAN –A three-point shot for the lead at the half-time buzzer by Glen Oaks Community College’s Karvel Anderson gave the host Vikings momentum as they held off the Ancilla College Chargers in Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference play Wednesday evening. The Chargers lost their final game of the regular season 75-67.

Ancilla (11-15, 5-11 MCCAA West) stayed close through most of the second half but could not surpass the Vikings down the stretch. The Chargers gave up 23 offensive rebounds and only shot 7 free throws in the game compared to 16 free throw attempts for Glen Oaks. Alexander Hutson led Ancilla with 22 points and 8 assists. Joby Renbarger added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

“Offensive rebounds and the free throw line really hurt us,” commented Ancilla coach Greg Neeley. “Our initial defense was good, but we couldn’t finish possessions, and we’re not going to beat many teams only getting to the foul line seven times.”

Ancilla finishes the MCCAA West season in 6th place tying for the second most conference wins in school history. The Chargers will enter the NJCAA District 8 tournament as the 6th seed and will play at 3rd seeded Muskegon on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in quarterfinal action.
