GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – The Ancilla College softball (20-6, 7-5 MCCAA) team lost the opening game of a double header at Grand Rapids Community College (17-12, 8-6 MCCAA) 7-6, running their season long losing streak to three games before breaking the streak in the nightcap with a 13-7 victory, earning their twentieth victory of the season.
Gretchen Gieseking belted two solo home runs and was 3-4 with 2 RBI in game one. Kayla Dell also added 2 RBI, while Kaitlyn Dreibelbis, Courtney Clark, and Cortney Ferrell all had two hits for Ancilla. The Chargers outhit the Raiders 12-10 in game one, but a big four run fifth inning by Grand Rapids, in which only two runs were earned, turned out to be the difference in the game.
Ancilla took a 6-0 lead after two at bats in game two, but Grand Rapids fought back to within one, trailing 7-6 after five innings. Ancilla’s big inning was the sixth, in which the Chargers strung together six straight hits with two outs to tally four runs in the frame.
Every Ancilla starter finished with a hit, as the Chargers finished with 17 hits in the game. Drebelbis, Gieseking, and Clark all had three hits each, while Clark finished with 3 RBI. Emily Steele picked up her sixth win of the season for Ancilla.
The Chargers finish their longest road string of the season today at NJCAA #11 Muskegon Community College, starting at 3:00 p.ma

. It is the fourth straight double header on the road for Ancilla, who returns home tomorrow to take on Kellogg Community College at 1:00 p.m.
