08/27/12 A moped accident Saturday evening claimed the life of an Argos man.

Emergency responders were called to 8674 19th Road east of Argos about 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a single vehicle accident.  A moped driven by 46 year old Jack L. Moriarty of Plum Street in Argos was east bound on 19th Road.  Witnesses said the moped was traveling at a high rate of speed.  For an unknown reason the moped crossed the roadway and struck a corner post of a field fence.  It was noted that the fence post was made from a railroad tie.

Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger said Moriarty died at the scene from injuries received in the crash.  The Marshall County Coroner’s Office is still investigating this crash along with the Sheriff’s Department.  As is standard procedure in any fatal accident toxicology results may help determine the cause of this accident.
