03/15/12 As part of the One Book One Town event, Civil War enthusiast, Robert Herr will be giving a public lecture, “A Civil War Soldier at Shiloh” at Plymouth Public Library on Sunday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Herr will be dressed in full battle uniform and will provide information of interest about the Indiana Volunteers and the local regiments and individuals who participated at the Battle of Shiloh.  He has visited all of the Civil War battlefields east of the Mississippi and will have on display several artifacts from the Civil War. All ages will enjoy this interesting program.  Light refreshments will be served.

The novel Shiloh by Shelby Foote is the book chosen for the One Book One Town program this year.  The One Book One Town event is spearheaded by the Friends of the Plymouth Public Library, but is developed in partnership with the Marshall County Historical Society, Encore Performing Arts, and the Plymouth Community Schools.  As well, the area public libraries including Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, and Culver-Union Township will be fostering local events focused on the book selection.  An Arts in Education grant from the Indiana Arts Commission is being used to  develop participation within the schools and set up “virtual book clubs” for both Plymouth High School and Lincoln Junior High students.
