01/25/12 The Culver Academies Quizbowl team competed at the elite Loyola Ultima Tournament on Saturday, facing eleven teams ranked nationally in the top 90. The Eagles ended up defeating all teams ranked below them, and were also able to knock off #9 Detroit Catholic Central and #25 IMSA B. Culver’s quality wins moved them up two spots in the national rankings released on Monday, allowing them to break in to the top 50 first the first time.  Culver’s overall record improved to 43 wins and 14 losses. As the fourth highest scorer, Andrew Van Duyn made the tournament All-Star team with a scoring average of 88.2 ppg. The Eagles are now preparing for their 24-team home tournament on Saturday, January 28, which will feature a rematch against #9 DCC at 3:00 PM in Roberts Auditorium. Spectators are welcome.
