05/08/12 Culver-Union Township Public Library staff members Andrew Baker and Teresa Hudson have recently returned from the 2012 Evergreen International Conference, held in Indianapolis. They enjoyed several technical presentations, collaboration with staff from other libraries and presented their new inventory software and process.

Nearly 300 people from multiple states and several foreign countries attended the conference, hosted by the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium. Evergreen is an open source integrated library system, which provides libraries a comprehensive collection management solution.

On Thursday, Teresa and Andrew presented their library inventory system to the conference. They designed, developed and implemented these tools to complete the 2011 inventory of the library’s collection. With their new procedure, the CUTPL staff was able to perform a complete inventory of the library’s 43,073 items in just 2 ½ days! The data from the inventory has allowed ongoing analysis and refinement of the library’s collection management process.

Culver-Union Township Public Library strives to continuously improve the accuracy of its collection data which in turn improves search results for items in the Online Public Access Catalog. The Evergreen Indiana Consortium currently has 98 member libraries and a collection of over six million items.
