05/30/12 MoonTree Studios is pleased to present “Face Value”, a show of recent work by clay artist Becki Moffett-Moore. She is a three dimensional clay artist who’s sculpted, cast and hand built one to eight inch heads are made of porcelain, stoneware and terra cotta clays utilizing a combination of low and high firing techniques and surface treatments.
Moffett-Moore’s current work “Face Value” is inspired by the human face. The human face is the most universally important focus of communication. It is a significant source of identity and the most expressive means of nonverbal communication. Faces are the most prominent visual object in our social environment. Using the image of the human face [in caricature, life-like or implied], her sculptural ceramic work playfully addresses both contradictions between literal and ambiguous interpretations of terms in the English language and of how we function in society surrounded by human stereotypes and the language generated by those stereotypes.
In 1975 she received a BFA in Graphic Design from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana. In May, 2012 she received an MA in ceramics from Governor’s State University, University Park, Illinois. Moffett-Moore lives in Frankfort, Illinois and is one of the founding elders of MoonTree Community, an Art, Nature and Healthy Living Ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in Donaldson, Indiana.
The exhibition is free and opened to the public on Monday, May 28. The opening reception is Sunday, June 3rd from 3:00pm – 5:00pm EDT.
