03/07/12 The school shooting in Florida on Tuesday has ties to Marshall County.

A teacher who had been fired earlier in the day returned to the Episcopal High School in Jackson at lunchtime with a rifle hidden in a guitar case.  He went into the office of the headmistress and fatally shot her, Dale Regan, several times before turning the gun on himself.

According to the Jackson Sheriff’s Department the suspected shooter was 28 year old Shane Schumerth, the terminated Spanish teacher.

Schumerth graduated from Culver Academy in 2002.  His father, Steve Schumerth is an instructor in the leadership department, according to Culver spokesman Doug Haberland.

Police have ruled the incident as a murder-suicide.
