09/19/12 Signups are now being accepted for both the beginner and intermediated/advanced Tuesday, October 6th fly fishing sessions which are sponsored by the Plymouth Park Dept.  Both classes will be held at the Conservation Clubhouse.  To sign up, contact the Plymouth Park Department at 574-936-7255. 

  The beginning session starts at 9 a.m. and runs until noon.              The intermediate/advanced casting class starts at 1 p.m. and finishes at 2:30 p.m.

Beginning Fly Fishing:  Learn when and why fly fishing is the right tool for the task.  Gain an understanding of what weight fly rod and fly line to use for various types of fishing.  Learn a little bit about leaders and tippet as well as line types (WF, DT, etc.); fly fishing safety & etiquette, and various types of flies.   Learn basic casting techniques (loop, stroke, line speed and trajectory) and the casting principles that will help you become more proficient in handling different casting situations.  Fly casting is not difficult, but it does use different motions than other types of fishing.  Learn the basics of fly tying and tie several flies.  Learn a little about basic knots and bugs.   Class is limited to 5 participants.   Minimum age is 11 years old.  This is a one-session class lasting approximately three hours.  Total cost is $10.00 per participant.  Equipment will be supplied.

Intermediate/Advanced Fly Casting Class:  Improve your fly casting accuracy and distance with a variety of specially-made targets designed to make you a better fly fisher.  Each target has a different configuration to help simulate real fishing scenarios.  This is a great way to practice both accuracy and distance under the guidance of an instructor.   Review the 5 casting principles that will help you become more proficient in handling different casting situations.  Learn how to eliminate tailing loops (knots in your leader).  Get started with how to double haul.  Classes will consist of a maximum of two participants in order for you to get the most practice and instruction possible.  Minimum age is 11 years old.  This is a one-session class lasting for approximately one and one-half hours.  Cost is $10.00 per participant.  Bring your own rod or one will be available.
