09/11/12 Food Bank of Northern Indiana will have their Mobile Food Pantry in Starke and Marshall Counties this week and next.
Since March, the Food Bank has hit the road one day each week delivering nutritious food directly to those in need in a pre-selected community in Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall or Stark Counties.
Fresh perishable items (dairy, grains, produce and protein) and dry goods are offered free of charge to northern Indiana residents. The Food Bank’s mobile pantry team set up tables at pre-scheduled locations where people can “shop” and select items that best meet their needs.
The pantries are first come, first served for those in need of food assistance. Mobile Pantry patrons must provide a valid photo ID (driver’s license or Indiana ID) and are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport their items home.
Mobile food pantries serve approximately 300 households during a two-hour time period.
The Food Bank’s mobile food pantries program will be at the First Pentecostal Church on Roosevelt Road in Knox on Thursday, September 13 from 10 a.m. till noon CDT. On Thursday, September 20 the pantry will be at the Argos United Methodist Church 570 North Michigan Street from 10 a.m. till noon EDT.
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana works in partnership to feed the hungry, increase awareness of the effects of hunger, and lead programs designed to alleviate hunger.
