09/27/12 The Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association will meet at Hensler Nursery’s “Fall Fest” on Saturday, October 6 for their Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.  The October 6th date coincides with World Weigh-Off for growers of huge gourds.  As an officially sanctioned site, growers bring in their produce and earn points toward International recognition.  Growers are expected from a multi-state area.

The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off begins at 11:00 (central) at Hensler Nursery, 5715 N. 750 E., in Hamlet.  Besides the pumpkin weigh-off, the contest will include prizes for the largest tomato, largest watermelon, largest cantaloupe, and long gourd.

Fall Fest activities at Hensler Nursery also begin next Saturday, Oct. 6th.  Activities include:  horse-drawn rides to the pumpkin patch, campfire rentals, a straw fort, and farm animals.  The Fall Barn opens with pumpkins, corn stalks, straw bales, gourds and mums.

Sunday’s special event is the Hensler Nursery Fall Fest and Street-driverz Classic Car Show.  Registration begins at 10:00.  A special feature will be the 1970’s rear engine dragster owned by Don and Nancy Buford.

Additionally, Oct. 6 and 7 Fall Fest will feature a new car dealer’s tent sale.  On site exhibiting their autos will be Oliver Ford from Plymouth and Cambe Chevrolet from Knox.
