08/21/12 Plymouth Farmer’s Market is holding a Gleaning day at the market on Saturday, August 25 to help raise donations to support the Neighborhood Center.  The Plymouth Farmer’s Market is held each Saturday through October 13th from 7:30 am through 11:30 am.  It is located at the intersection of Garro and River Streets downtown Plymouth.

The goal of Gleaning day is to have a fun event to highlight the variety of food available at the farmer’s market and raise food and monetary donations to help the Neighborhood Center with their mission to provide food resources to individuals in Plymouth.  We will make our own version of stone soup by gleaning produce from vendors on Saturday morning and use beef from a vendor to make soup.  Once it is ready we will give soup out throughout the morning at no cost.  It is simply our thank you for coming to the Plymouth Farmer’s Market and supporting our vendors.

We will also accept canned food, monetary donations, and/or even fresh produce donations purchased from our vendors to support the Neighborhood Center.  A representative from the Neighborhood Center will accept our donations at the end of our market.  The Neighborhood Center does have refrigerators to store the produce until Monday, when it will be distributed to families that can benefit from this resource.

Gleaning Day is a great opportunity to come to the Plymouth Farmer’s Market and to celebrate the diversity of locally raised foods.  Also, if you have questions either visit our web page at the plymouthfarmersmarket.com or on Facebook, Plymouth Farmers Market Inc.   Hope to see you at Plymouth Farmer’s Market on Saturday, August 25.
