Great Shooting Not Enough for Ancilla Men

PLYMOUTH, INDIANA –The Ancilla men were in a high scoring battle on the basketball court last night with more than 200 points scored between both teams. The Chargers lost at Grand Rapids Community College by a score of 114-90 in Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference play.

Ancilla (10-14, 4-10 MCCAA West) had two players finish the night with 58 points between them, but that wasn’t enough to take home a win. Joby Renbarger scored 38 points for the Chargers while Marc Constable added another 20, but it was the three-point shooting by the Raiders that spelled the difference. Grand Rapids (16-8, 11-3 MCCAA West), the second place team in the MCCAA West, made a season high 20 three-point shots and finished with 33 assists.

“I’m proud of how our guys competed,” started Ancilla coach Greg Neeley. “We’re shorthanded right now due to some injuries, and I thought the guys we had dressed gave a maximum effort.”

The Chargers will close out the regular season at home on Saturday when they take on Kellogg Community College (8-17, 4-10 MCCAA West) at 3:00 p.m. at the LifePlex. A win would secure a sixth place finish in the MCCAA West for Ancilla, which would be their highest finish since 2007-2008 and would match their second highest finish ever in conference. Saturday is also Sophomore Day, where the second year student-athletes will be honored before the game.
