Help Operation Quiet Comfort during your 4th of July Holiday

June 28, 2012

06/29/12 You may have heard by now that Marshall County has extended the burn ban indefinitely and included a ban on private and public fireworks.  That means that if it doesn’t rain substantially, and there isn’t any in the forecast, we will not be celebrating July 4th with fireworks but we can still celebrate our FREEDOM thanks to the men and women who are serving and have served our country and the sacrifices their families have made!

Jan Houin from Operation Quiet Comfort has several ways that local citizens can help our troops.

As we are experiencing extreme heat and drought in Indiana our troops in Afghanistan are also experiencing extreme heat and MUST stay hydrated.  Operation Quiet Comfort sends many boxes of drink mixes, the kind you add to a bottle of water.  As you pour yourself another tall glass of lemonade or iced tea why not consider making a donation of drink mix to our troops?  Another idea is to put a donation jar by the drink jug or cooler at your holiday family picnics, reunions or other summer gatherings and give others the opportunity to help our troops.

Old Navy will have Flip Flops on sale This SATURDAY, JUNE 30 for $1 per pair with a limit of 5 pair.  Houin said, “We ship many of these to the medical units where they use them for shower shoes. We need MEN’S SIZES in colors BLACK, BROWN, or NAVY.”  Her suggestion, Take your entire family to Old Navy and each purchase 5 pair.  If you see someone at the checkout without flip flops ask them to buy 5 for OQC.  What a great opportunity to share the Operation Quiet Comfort mission with a stranger and give them the opportunity to show our troops that a grateful nation truly cares!

If you purchase drink mixes or Flip Flops you can drop them off at WTCA Radio Station in downtown Plymouth.

Monetary donations can be sent to:
Operation Quiet Comfort
307 Palmer Lane
McCormick, SC 29835

It is on channel 34.1 at 6:30 p.m. and 34.2 at 8:00 p.m.
