10/05/12 The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, IN, is offering a variety of train rides so everyone can take in the sights and sounds and smells of the autumn season. Aboard the Pumpkin Trains, Saturdays, October 6th and 20th enjoy a leisurely trip through the rural northwest Indiana countryside and across the Kankakee River at English Lake. Upon returning to the North Judson area, the train will travel to the HVRM pumpkin patch where everyone may choose and purchase a pumpkin for just $1.50 before returning to the depot. The Fall Harvest Train, Saturday, October 13th, will cross the Kankakee River and continue on through the rural farm country and along wooded areas to LaCrosse, IN, and then return to the depot. These 10-mile and 20-mile round-trip excursions are great way to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Take your choice of riding in a vintage caboose, on an open-air car, or in a coach. All seating is first-come so arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure. The times of these special train rides are on our website at www.hoosiervalley.org. The museum is always free but there are fees for the train rides given May through October.
The train on the Saturday before Halloween is a special event where passengers can enjoy a rare early evening train ride and a Not-So-Scary Scary Animal Show. The Halloween train is a round-trip excursion to LaCrosse with the return trip beginning at dusk. Dress in costume or come as you are.
Trains are handicapped-accessible. HVRM is open Saturdays, year-round, 9 – 4 PM, Central Time. Reservations for train rides may be made on-line at www.hoosiervalley.org or call the depot at 574-896-3950 on Saturdays. Every purchase made helps to support the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum’s continuing efforts to preserve and protect the various railroad artifacts in our collection. Our non-profit, all-volunteer museum relies upon sales from our gift shop, ticket sales, donations and other contributions to carry out our mission of educating the public and sharing the history of railroading in America.
