07/02/12  In minutes leading up to the most important race in Plymouth native, Morgan Uceny’s track career, friends and family where on pins and needles awaiting the start of the 1500m run for a shot at the Olympics in London this July.   One would think the runner herself Morgan Uceny would have a little butterflies herself.  If she did, it didn’t show.

By race end, she erased the ghost of her World Championship fall, and won the 2012 US Trials for 1500m in a time of 4:04:59!   The 2003 Plymouth High School Graduate will now travel to London and represent not only her hometown but the rest of the United States of America!

A great start out of the gate set the pace.   By the end of a 66 second first lap Morgan was in the top 3 and took the lead by lap 3 at the 2:36 mark.     She paced herself flawlessly for the final lap and pulled away for good to secure a dream trip to the Olympics in London.

She will be joined by 1500m teammates, World Champion Medalist Shannon Rowbury, World Champion-Jenny Simpson.

“I’m just so excited, it’s a dream come true and I’ve been thinking about this day for so long.  You know that last lap, you try not to think about it and keep calm….do what you do….but I’ve been consistent for a long time and now it finally paid off.”, said Uceny moments after the race.

Congrats Plymouth native Morgan Uceny on being an Official Olympian, not bad for girl who wanted to be a WNBA star!
