06/11/12 The Lake Maxinkuckee Association expressed its gratitude to Gary and Eyvonne Aker of the Culver Marina for their support of the LMA. The couple stepped up during the summer of 2011 when the Lake Patrol Boat’s internal gas tank ruptured and loaned the organization portable gas tanks to allow the patrol boat to operate and provide lake safety.
This year the Akers agreed to sell LMA its new patrol boat, motor, and hoist at the Marina’s cost. The fully equipped patrol boat is a Hydra-Sports 23 Bay Bolt and is on lake patrol this summer.
The current 1999 Scout Patrol Boat has been refurbished and will have graphics added matching the new boat’s.
The Akers, said June Grund of the LMA, will host the LMA’s annual fund raiser auction and hog roast again this year, on June 23.
“Their support and use of the Culver Marina last year provided an excellent venue for the event and helped make the event one of the most successful events raising funds to operate the Lake Patrol,” she notes.
Besides purchase of the new Lake Patrol boat, for the second summer in a row the LMA entered into an agreement with Marshal County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin to man the boats with County Sheriff’s deputies, according to Grund. Chamberlin deputized the Lake Patrol’s officers Bill Strong, Troy Ulch, and John Duhnowsky. The agreement calls for 800 hours of on-lake patrol through the summer of 2012, performed by law enforcement officers trained in boating safety and emergency response.
“The LMA is grateful to Sheriff Chamberlin for his help in establishing a new and more effective lake patrol program,” Grund says, adding that an agreement has been signed between the LMA and Chamberlin through December 31, 2014.
All costs to operate the Lake Patrol are primarily underwritten by the Lake Maxinkuckee Association a not for profit 501 c 3 charitable organization.
