08/10/12 The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department patrols Lake Maxinkuckee for a second summer per an agreement with Sheriff Tom Chamberlin and Marshall County Commissioners. Deputies from the Sheriff’ Department man the boats. Lake Patrol Officers who are law enforcement academy trained are deputized by Sheriff Chamberlin.
In addition to having full law enforcement powers, the deputies provide safety education, marking rock safety hazards, and water perimeter security patrol for lake events like the Lake Fest Fireworks, Academy Moonlight Serenades, and the Triathalon and Swim for Kids. The agreement with Sheriff Chamberlin calls for 800 hours of on-water patrol during 2012.
The Lake Maxinkuckee Association is grateful to Sheriff Chamberlin for his help in establishing a more effective lake patrol safety program which will continue through December 31, 2014. All costs to operate the Lake Patrol are primarily underwritten by the Lake Maxinkuckee Association a not-for-profit 501 c 3 charitable organization and by a grant from the Department of Natural Resources.
The agreement with Sheriff Chamberlin is an excellent example of public-private partners collaborating to increase law enforcement activities at no cost to taxpayers.
Lake Maxinkuckee Association donated to the K9 Unit at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department pursuant to Lake Max. Association’s (LMA) overall mission of water safety and preserving the environment on and around the lake, LMA donated funds to Marshall County for the purchase of a Canine Unit. Brandon Cooper of Culver will be the Sheriff’s Deputy trained to be the canine officer. Sheriff Chamberlin thanked the LMA Members for donating the funds to re-establish the Canine Unit a much needed program for our County which will enhance safety in our communities.
