05/16/12 Local United Methodist Churches will join United Methodists worldwide to Change the World, a church-wide event on Saturday May 19 that prompts members to join with others in the community to make a difference locally and globally.
Plymouth Trinity UMC along with Plymouth First, Pretty Lake Trinity, Argos UMC, and Tyner UMC will participate by doing several service projects around the county. The projects include home reconstruction for two local families, planting flowers for those unable to garden, cleaning up the Yellow River bank and fixing up the store in Tyner. Other projects are Adopt-a-Block Fun Fair in Argos and greeting card-making and mailing to our military service personnel and shut-ins. The children will be invited to paint flower-pots that will be delivered to area residents.
“We may not be able to change the world, but we can do something!” stated Barbara Holcomb, local Change the World Coordinator. “There is a project planned for every age and ability” she continued.
Change The World – Marshall County is open to anyone willing to participate. It will be on Saturday, May 19 starting at 8:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall at Plymouth Trinity which is located at the corner of South Michigan and Williams St. From there, volunteers will go out to the project work sites. Volunteers may wish to bring gloves, hat, garden tools, water bottles, etc. Lunch and child care will be provided.
The global Change the World event was created as part of The United Methodist Church’s Rethink Church campaign, which seeks to utilize outreach events that embrace the concept of outward-bound church to make a positive difference in the world beyond the church doors.
“One of the Change the World projects will be re-building a foundation for a home in Bremen that is badly in need of repair,” stated Holcomb. “When the family found out we were helping, they said, ‘You would do that for us?’ What a feel-good moment!”
