05/21/12 On Saturday, May 12 four local girls competed in the Indiana State Baton Twirling Competition.

Jillian Smith and Alicia Dennie won the overall Advanced Pairs award for the day.  Jillian also won her age group for beginner two batons and was the beginner two baton champion for the day.  Alicia won her age group for intermediate two batons, strut and dance twirl and was named the intermediate two baton champion for the day.  Haley McFarland won her age group in beginner dance twirl, as well as several box and parade march awards winning six first place awards for the day.  Her younger sister Amanda also competed and she did a great job in a very tough age group scoring her best score ever that day.

These girls all spend countless hours practicing this unique sport.  All four girls will be twirling with Daphne’s Dolls this summer.

Smith and Dennie have already qualified to compete at Pre-Trials which is the first step in making team USA.  These girls will try and qualify to move on in June at the Mid-East Regional competition on June 15-16.  The two will also be competing at the USTA National competition in July in Dayton, Ohio.
