03/14/12 During Monday evening’s Plymouth Common Council meeting Mayor Mark Senter read a proclamation recognizing Monday, March 12th at Girl Scout Day in Plymouth. The proclamation was in honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in America. The following is the Mayor’s proclamation:

MARCH 9, 2012
WHEREAS, March 12, 2012, marks the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in America, begun by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of girls and women with the highest ideals of courage, confidence, and character; and
WHEREAS, through the Girl Scout leadership experience girls develop the skills and lessons that will serve them a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting takes an active role in increasing girls’ awareness of the opportunities available to them in math, science, sports, technology, and other fields that can expand their horizons; and
WHEREAS, more than 3 million current Girl Scout members nationwide are celebrating 100 years of tradition and leadership with nearly 50 million women who are former Girl Scouts and living proof of the impact of the movement; and
WHEREAS, over the last one-hundred years, thousands of young women in the Plymouth area have been touched by the Scouting movement; and
THEREFORE, I, Mark Senter, Mayor of Plymouth and on behalf of The Citizens of Plymouth and The Common Council, do hereby recognize the impact of this great organization and the importance of its 100 years of service to the people of this community and communities across America, by proclaiming March 12, 2012 as Girl Scout Day in Plymouth.
