02/17/12 Slippery roads Tuesday morning are the cause of a car train accident on 11th Road south of Plymouth.

At 9:50 a.m. the train conductor, Robert Fox called 9-1-1 to report the crash and Indiana State Police Trooper Corey Sauer responded to the scene on 11th Road just east of Maple Road.

Jeanie McVicker of Plymouth was traveling west on 11th Road in a 2002 Ford Excursion  approaching the railroad tracks located east of Maple Road.  The driver told Trooper Sauer she tried to stop before the railroad crossing but began sliding due to the ice and snow on the roadway.  The vehicle struck the rear of the train engine which was traveling north on the railroad tracks.

McVicker was taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure.  She had a slight ankle injury and will be in an air-cast for several days.  No other injuries were reported.

The train had slight damage to the read of the engine.  The Ford Excursion had heavy front-end damage.
