04/20/12 State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Bremen) congratulated Bremen Public Schools for being awarded an “Excellence in Performance” grant by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). The award, announced today, will go to high-performing teachers in the school district.
Bremen is one of 28 first-time recipients of the grant, which was created by the General Assembly during the 2011 legislative session and distributes $6 million to winning school corporations around the state.
“I am very proud of the teaching staff at Bremen Public Schools for their hard work and dedication,” Mishler said. “I’m glad to see them get the recognition they deserve.”
In order to receive funding from this program, a school corporation must have a performance evaluation system that meets requirements established by law. To create the grant program, IDOE translated the statutory requirements to an application and a scoring rubric.
According to the IDOE, several variables were considered when calculating potential grant amounts:
· Number of teachers in the applying school corporation
· Number of teachers in the applying school corporation who may be identified as effective
· Number of teachers in the applying school corporation who may be identified as highly effective
· Amount to be allocated to teachers rated as effective
· Amount to be allocated to teachers rated as highly effective
Based on these variables, Bremen Public Schools will be awarded $101,641. This money will be given to teachers rated effective or highly effective under the state’s new performance evaluation requirements.
