08/20/12 City department heads presented their monthly reports during last week’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

Plymouth Fire and EMS responded to a total of 213 calls in July.  There were 172 EMS incidents and 17 medical assists.  Fire calls included 4 structure fires and 4 dispatched and cancelled en route, 3 false alarms and 3 vehicle fires.  Fire was dispatched to 2 natural vegetation fires, and 2 smoke or order problems and one each for extrication, rubbish fire, EMS stand-by, a severe weather issue, a system malfunction and one unintentional system operation.

In looking at calls by districts 142 were in Plymouth, 30 in West Township and 18 in Center Township. There were 2 calls in Argos and LaPaz and one each in Culver and Polk Township.  Paramedic assists were 7 for Culver, 4 for Walkerton, and 2 each for Argos, Starke County, and LaPaz.

Police Chief Jim Cox presented his July report which had a total of 798 information calls, 355 complaints, 213 traffic stops, and 195 9-1-1 calls. Plymouth officers conducted 137 investigations, signed 110 charges, did 98 security checks, responded to 44 alarms, and made 39 criminal arrests.

In July city officers checked 36 suspicious vehicles and 33 suspicious persons, conducted 30 welfare checks, investigated 27 thefts, handled 24 property damage accidents, made 20 traffic arrests and used the K-9 15 times.  Other calls last month included 11 juvenile complaints, issued 8 $2 parking tickets, located 4 open doors or windows, enacted the merchant protection plan 3 times, were called to 1 suicide attempt, 1 battery, 1 trespassing and 1 personal injury accident.
