09/28/12 MoonTree Studios invites you to the opening reception for The Spirit of Wood: Artful Prayer & Prayerful Art, to be held Saturday, September, 29th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. EDT. The Rev. Carol Fleming, a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana, is the featured artist. Her works of carving and wood turning will be on display through November 4th, 2012.

Fleming has been carving for over 20 years and recently began woodturning; making hand-crafted Communion vessels.  Her carvings range from carving in the round, shallow and deep reliefs, to chip carving. Her subjects range from whimsical tree houses and Santas to religious pieces and Native American themes.

A word from the artist:  “I find a certain sense of peace when I am working with the wood. I feel as if the Master’s hands are guiding me as I work.  When I look at the finished piece I am always amazed and can’t imagine that my hands created this work of art.”

Fleming is a native of Sandusky, Ohio. She is a retired educator, having taught in the United States and overseas. Currently, she serves as Chaplain to the cadets and staff at The Howe School, in Howe, Indiana and is Priest in Charge at St. John of the Cross, Bristol, Indiana. She and her husband, Chuck, reside in Union, Michigan.
