03/23/12 Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, U.S. Senate Candidate in the May 8th Republican Primary, received the endorsement today of the Indiana Right to Life Political Action Committee (IRTL PAC) over six-term incumbent Senator Dick Lugar.

“I appreciate the support of the Indiana Right to Life PAC and the thousands of Hoosiers who believe, like me, that the sanctity of life is a fundamental principle and needs to be protected. For this reason, a U.S. Senator needs to scrutinize presidential nominees to the Supreme Court and appointments to the executive branch that affect this critical issue.

“Sadly, Senator Lugar has abdicated his Constitutional power of ‘advice and consent’ over judicial appointees and has preferred instead to rubber-stamp Obama’s liberal judges. Why else would he have approved Obama’s pro-choice nominees like Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court and Kathleen Sebelius to head the Department of Health and Human Services,” stated Treasurer Mourdock.

In the past, Lugar has also supported embryonic stem cell research and has flip-flopped on providing government funding to Planned Parenthood.

Chairman of the IRTL PAC Mike Fichter expressed their support by stating:

“The Indiana Right to Life Political Action Committee is pleased to endorse Richard Mourdock to represent Indiana as a member of the U. S. Senate.

“While there are many reasons we are proud to make this endorsement, it simply comes down to this: we can’t afford to give Richard Lugar the opportunity to help place one more activist judge like Elena Kagan or Sonia Sotomayor onto the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Should President Obama gain a second term, and should he have the opportunity to fill one of the Supreme Court seats currently held by a conservative justice, we will lose the court for a generation unless we have Republicans Senators willing to fight this administration’s attempt to use the federal courts as a tool for judicial activism.”

To date, Richard Mourdock has been endorsed by multiple pro-family groups: Concerned Women PAC, Republican National Committee for Life PAC, Eagle Forum PAC, Family Research Council Action PAC, Campaign for Working Families and Family Federal PAC.

“Unfortunately, the harm that comes from Senator Lugar’s propensity to rubber-stamp pro-choice nominees to the Supreme Court doesn’t end with the pro-life movement. Next Monday, these same liberal justices – Ginsberg, Sotomayor and Kagan – will hear arguments in the challenge to ObamaCare, which contains the unconstitutional mandate requiring every American to buy government-approved health insurance,” stated Treasurer Mourdock.
