05/08/12 Following a hospital stay, nearly every patient has a story about a special caregiver: their comforting touch, their listening ear, their warm smile or even their ability to remember the name of a favorite pet. Nurses play an important role as caregivers, and at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, they serve as an integral part in keeping the greater Marshall County community healthy.
More than 3.1 million registered nurses help to save lives and maintain the health of people around the country. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people are touched by the caring hands of nurses in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They are a diverse group of healthcare professionals dedicated to the wellness of patients and their families.
National Nurses Week, May 6th—12th, is a time set aside to highlight the many ways that nurses dedicate their lives to the comfort of others. Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
