Very interesting show (listening to the Podcast)! You had mentioned meanness today. I think this comes from a lot of sources.
1. As you mention, hiding behind the keyboard as you mention relieves the person of any responsibility of their comments. If a person had to look into the eyes of the target of their comments, they would be thinking twice (or risk a black eye — figuratively or otherwise).
2. TV today. Though I can see how people might find it entertaining, programs like Simpsons, Married with Children, Family Guy, etc really give a bad example. It almost blesses the kind of in-your-face behaviour that leads to this meanness.
3. Never having been exposed to adversity. People who have had to struggle to get up have a better sense of how they got to their place in life and have an appreciation of others like themselves. People who have always had it all don’t.
and lastly….
4. Lack of censure. Nothing else needs to be said…
