“First of all, it’s never easy to beat a team twice. CMA has improved since our last regular season meeting. We needed to find their shooting guards and prevent them from going wild from outside. We did that I thought.”, said Plymouth Coach Ryan Bales.
The defensive effort by Plymouth showed by holding CMA’s outside shooters of Dante Scott (fr) and Hayes Barnes (sph) to a combined 17 shots for the game, only 6 were made by those two.
“I feel we did a good job keeping them from getting settled in from outside. I think we held those two players to only 4 shots from outside the arc. They are the catalyst offensively if they get going outside. But tonight….it was about our defense which I thought was tough.”, added Bales.
Plymouth outscored CMA 15-3 in that third quarter, shooting 8/13 (61%) in the t second half alone.
“I thought we capitalized on their turnovers through out the ballgame. Everyone did. It will take that kind of effort to win the Sectionals here at home.”, said Coach.
Plymouth got 28 points off 19 CMA turnovers. Plymouth received 27 points off the bench to help their cause. Plymouth will face Mishawaka Marian in Game 2 on Friday night.
In the first game, Mishawaka Marian defeated South Bend St. Joseph 62-39. The Knights were led in scoring by Demetrius Jackson’s 26 pts, 18 in the first half. St. Joe struggled from the floor early and could not recover as Marian kept the their lead gapped by no less than 12 points in the final three quarters.
