08/27/12 Plymouth High School Band Director, Bryan Ames, is asking the community to help provide instruments for beginning students. Ames said, “There are 100 kids in beginning band and many do not have instruments since their parents can no longer afford to purchase instruments.”
Ames said,”Although we will take any instruments, we mostly need they need instruments that are in good condition or that need little repair.” He said, “We need instruments that they can use for both the high school and beginning level.”
The benefit of music programs has been noted by the College Board. The Board has identified the arts as one of the “six basic academic subject areas students should study in order to succeed in college”. One research study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education showed that students who were involved in high level of instrumental programs over the middle and high school years had “significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12”.
Donations can be dropped off at PHS. Donors can receive a document showing the donation for tax purposes if they include a name and mailing address.
