02/08/12 Tuesday evening the Plymouth Park Board gave their blessings to Superintendent Mike Hite to submit applications for two grant opportunities. Hite said the “Bikes Belong Grant” has a maximum value of $10,000. The Bikes Belong Grant Program is aimed at providing funding to those who strive to improve bicycling in America through things such as the building of trails and paths, or through promoting general bicycling advocacy and awareness. Hite explained that the Park was successful obtaining a Bikes Belong Grant for the first phase of the Greenway Trail.
The second grant opportunity is through the Marshall County Community Foundation. Hite is seeking funding for the proposed Dog Park in Centennial Park. He said the group working on this facility is planning to build it with no tax money.
In other business the Plymouth Park Board approved the 2011 Annual Report and the contract with Senter Stage Dance for use of the Webster Recreation Center for dance lessons. They also approved a contract with Young Champions Cheerleading and Mainstage Entertainment for the Daddy Daughter Dance.
Members of the Plymouth Park Board unanimously approved a new three year contract with the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. Hite explained a couple of differences in the new agreement. The Festival will have exclusive rights to the park beginning on Thursday with the opening of the carnival. They will also have permission to erect tents in specific areas beginning the Sunday prior to the Festival. The final change is a $1,000 increase in the payment bringing the annual amount to $31,000. The new contract is for 2012, 2013, and 2014.
